Uh oh, that's not good. That plant is crucial to Shwa's economy.

Not knowing that town, is this one of those things where GM is the primary employer?

I had read that they were making a major “staffing announcement” tomorrow. This would be major.

I don’t imagine it would be immediate. The only plus side is that the labor market is pretty good right now. But you’d be hard-pressed to find anything that paid that well.

The article indicates it’s more diverse than it used to be, and other than the article I’m entirely  unfamiliar with the situation, but I imagine the direct and indirect impact would be huge.

Woah. That is legitimately surprising. It’s not like Oshawa is producing Regals any more - it was retooled for Silverado/Sierra. And GM’s union contract in 2016 agreed to reopen the second assembly line to produce trucks, plus invest a shitton of cash - $554M to be exact - and that contract isn’t up until 2020.

It’s Doug Ford. The idiotic leader of Ontario. Brother of Rob Ford.

He doesn’t give a shit about working class people.

yeah, I know. I probably would have voted Ford.  I guess that the lesson there is to run better candidates

Surprising now. A few years ago, it would have been unfortunate, but understandable. But, didn’t they just make a substantial investment to convert to trucks?  Seems like GM isn’t exactly overcapacity on pickup production.

So now GM is unable to blame the Germans for making them unprofit ab le , they start blaming the Canadians? I have family in Oshawa, and some of them used to be employed by GM, luckily they weren’t working for them anymore.

They had a better candidate in the form of Patrick Brown... and a hatchet job was orchestrated against him with accusations that were complete bullshit.

Sounds like Canada is just following in the footsteps of Australia.  At what point will no cars be produced north of the border?
